Where It All Began
Edward L. Obi, Sr. founded Obi's Auto Repair & Parts in a small service station in Jacksonville, Florida. He specialized in both major and minor auto repairs and built a small remanufacturing room to produce his own brand of rebuilt parts — carburetors, starters, alternators, generators, fuel pumps, master cylinders, water pumps and more.
First Datsun Dealer in America
Obi's became the first Datsun (now known as Nissan) dealer in the entire United States — a milestone that put the family name on the national automotive map.
First Subaru Dealer in the U.S.
Three years later, Obi's made history again as the first Subaru dealer in America. That love of cars and innovation became the foundation of everything the family built.
Eddie Takes the Wheel
Eddie Obi took over the family business after his father retired, carrying forward the legacy with the same dedication to quality and craftsmanship that defined the original shop.
National Carburetors
Eddie founded National Carburetors to remanufacture carburetors at scale. At its peak, the company held the largest carburetor core bank in the U.S., shipping under many brand names for wholesale customers nationwide. If you bought a carburetor from your local parts store, it probably came from us.
NAPA Auto Care Opens in St. Augustine
Eddie opened a NAPA Auto Care Service facility in St. Augustine, bringing his modern, clean service concept to the city — a professional, full-service shop that set a higher standard for automotive care in the area.
Obi Mobile Car Repair
After the NAPA Auto Care location closed due to COVID-19, Eddie launched Obi Mobile Car Repair Service — bringing expert automotive service directly to customers' driveways across St. Augustine.
Obi Automotive & RV Repair Opens
In March 2023, Obi's Automotive & RV Repair and Obi's Garage 54 Car Repair Club opened at 125 Dobbs Business Circle #501, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Open 7 days a week and ready to serve.
Brand New Facility — Now Open
On June 1, 2026, Obi Automotive & RV Mobile Repair Service opened the doors to our brand new facility at 675 Kings Estate Road, Suite 111, St. Augustine, FL 32086. Open Monday–Friday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM–1:00 PM, and mobile emergency service available 9:00 AM–9:00 PM six days a week.
Still in the Family
72 years later, the Obi brothers are still in the automotive business. Sam and Harrison own and operate AA Automotive — one of the largest auto repair shops in Jacksonville. Eddie continues the legacy in St. Augustine with Obi Automotive & RV Mobile Repair.
